Healthy Schools Program

Problem: A child’s ability to attain his or her full potential relates directly to the foundations of good health, good nutrition and appropriate education.  If children are healthy, they are better able to learn. School-age children in Nicaragua are affected by illnesses such as intestinal parasites and lice, which left untreated, affect their growth and ability to learn in school.

Goal of the Program: Improve the health of school children by coordinating with local school programs.

Program: Through health promoters and school teachers, we work with communities to encourage school attendance, teach nutrition and health concepts to school children, and train teachers in first aid.

We coordinate with the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (MINSA( and the Ministry of Education (MINED) to help:

  1. Provide first aids kits to schools

  1. Provide deworming medicines to treat

parasites

  1. Provide de-licing medications

  1. Provide school kits (notebooks and school supplies) for elementary school children in need
