Disaster Relief
Problem: Nicaragua is a country that is plagued by both natural and man made disasters.
Goal: To contribute to disaster relief efforts in rural areas of Nicaragua hit by disasters.
Recent Disaster Relief Efforts
After Hurricane Felix struck the Atlantic Coast in September of 2007 and flooding hit the Pacific coast, AMOS worked alongside the Council of Protestant Churches (CEPAD) to conduct rapid assessments of damage in the rural communities of Hiltara, Butku, Sangnilaya, and Panua (RAAN, Atlantic region), and the rural communities of La Pimienta, El Guasimito, El Obraje, El Calderon, and La Consulta (Chinandega, Pacific region).
Thanks to the generosity of people in churches in the United States, CEPAD and AMOS have been able to deliver crucial supplies of food, farming and construction tools, hygiene kits, mosquito nets, and essential medications to affected areas.
