AMOS Deworming Program:
Wipe Out Worms (WOW) Now
Problem: In Nicaragua, the situation of poverty combined with high temperatures and humidity results in a high burden of intestinal parasites (also known as worms) which contributes to malnutrition, poor physical growth and impaired cognitive function in school age children during a critical period of their development.
Goal: To decrease worm infection in children through massive deworming campaigns, community health education programs, and support for water and sanitation projects.
PROGRAM: Deworming of children is safe and effective with a single dose of either mebendazole or albendazole.
AMOS works to assure deworming medications for school age children in Nicaragua as well as monitor the effectiveness of the deworming program through studies on the intensity of the worm infections in children.
AMOS partners with the Franconia Mennonite Deworming Program, Food for the Hungry International and American Baptist Churches International Ministries to get deworming medicines to Nicaragua.
